Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

services

Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, is a chronic pain condition that usually develops after an injury, surgery, stroke, or heart attack. It typically affects one limb, causing pain that is far more severe and long-lasting than would normally be expected. The affected area may show changes in skin colour and temperature, swelling, abnormal sweating, sensitivity to touch, and stiffness or reduced movement in the joints.

The exact cause of CRPS is not fully understood, but it is thought to result from an abnormal response of the nervous system following an injury. Early diagnosis and treatment are important, as this can significantly improve outcomes and reduce long-term disability.
